Vodafone has confirmed Sony’s new handheld gaming console the Sony PlayStation Vita 3G edition will be available to buy from February 22nd for £279, confirming a rumour we first heard last year.

NEAR is an application pre-installed on the VITA, bringing social gaming services unique to PlayStation, including location-based service and social gaming, enabling users to track their friends locations and comment and recommend games.
The Sony PlayStation Vita 3G versions comes with a free 4GB memory card and a PAYG sim, which when topped up by £5, provides a free download of WipEout 2048. Topping up £5 on Vodafone provides 250MB data, which will last 30 days.
3G connectivity means users can access the PlayStation Network on-the-go using the PlayStation Vita, to buy games and download Facebook, Twitter and Flickr apps.
The PlayStation Vita costs £279 and will be available from February 22nd from Vodafone. If that seems a little expensive trade in old handsets and mobile phones to save money using Vodafone BuyBack. A WiFi-only version of the Vita is available for around £219.
