Sony has revealed a sleek new stainless steel Smartwatch 3 and the Smart B-Trainer motivational wireless fitness earphones at CES 2015. We went hands-on with the new gear at Sony’s booth.
Sony’s latest smartwatch, the SmartWatch 3, is a decent stab at an Android Wear device although the design leaves a slightly stale taste in the mouth. After all, it’s a shame that the same company that produces the gorgeous Xperia smartphones came up with a rubbery watch that picks up grime far too easily.
Well, amends have been made at CES 2015, with the new stainless steel model of the SmartWatch 3. This sleek silver wearable looks a million miles better than the original rubber efforts, with a solid construction that shouldn’t pick up any scuffs or nicks when you’re on the go.
We had a quick play and aside from the design change, there’s no new features or additions. However, the new look and feel gives the SmartWatch 3 a much more premium finish and we’d be much happier rocking it on our wrists full-time.
Sony was generally quiet on the mobile front at CES 2015, but it also found time to launch its new Smart B-Trainer earphones, some wireless ‘phones that are designed to keep you pounding the pavement with maximum efficiency. Not only can they help you to keep tempo during your workout by playing appropriate music that you pre-load on, but they can also whisper advice in your ear as you get active. Presumably things like ‘keep running fatso, your arse is hanging out of your lycra’.
Factor in the built-in GPS and you can leave your phone at home while you work out, just like with the Smartwatch 3. And there’s also the very in-fashion and almost obligatory heart rate monitor, built into the Smart-B so you can keep track of your ticker.
The stainless steel SmartWatch 3 is due out in the UK later this year, as is the Smart B-Trainer, but there’s no word on UK pricing so far. We’ll bring you news when we have it.
