Sony Xperia Z Ultra teased in official invite

Just last week we heard details of Sony’s upcoming “Togari” – now dubbed the Sony Xperia Ultra – a larger device that’s said to include a 6.4-inch display. Now we’ve caught a possible glimpse of the handset in an invitation that Sony is sending out to members of the French press. Xperia Blog shared the invite for all the world to see, noting that Sony intends to hold an event on July 4th.

So what can we take away from the invite? Sony remarks that a “big surprise” awaits the press at the event, giving credence to rumours of a larger display. A stylus is also included in the imagery, suggesting that Sony will bundle a pen with the handset to take on devices such as the Galaxy Note 2.

Rumours have suggested that the Sony Xperia Z Ultra will feature a 6.4-inch Triluminos 1080p display, a Qualcomm Snadpragon 800 chipset with a quad-core processor clocked at 2.3Ghz, 2GB of RAM,. 16GB of internal storage, and an 8-megapixel camera. A microSD card slot is also reportedly on board for further expansion up to 64GB, and 2.2-megapixel front-facing camera is said to handle video calling duties.

The Sony Xperia Z Ultra looks to be using a similar design to the Xperia Z, but it may be even thinner than the company’s current flagship. Xperia Blog believes the handset will be just 6.5mm thick, although it certaintly won’t be a light device at 212 grams. At least Sony is including the latest version of Android: the Xperia Z Ultra is said to include Android 4.2.

That’s all we know about the device right now, but July 4th is only a few short weeks away. We’ll no doubt discover exactly what Sony has in mind then.
