Sony Xperia Z3 specs, pictures and release date leaked?

First details on the hotly-awaited Sony Xperia Z3 emerge.

Sony doesn’t mess about when it comes to its smartphones. The company always seems keen to push out bigger and ostensibly better devices in relatively quick succession and it’s this curious trend that has led to the Xperia Z3 supposedly being leaked already, a mere 3 months after the Xperia Z2 got its bow.

The Z3 will succeed the Z2 (pictured).

Chinese site IT68 has posted some images and details of what it claims to be the next top-tier Sony smartphone and they include some notable new additions, including a thin metal chassis with rounded edges and a PVD coating (a feature said to be shared by the upcoming iPhone 6), which should make the device impervious to common knocks, scrapes and drops.

PVD coating also has strong environmental credentials. With many firms looking to be seen as green, dialling down on potentially damaging processes like electroplating in favour of more environmentally friendly ones like PVD could be seen as a huge PR boost.

Could this be the Z3?

Sony Xperia Z3 specs

In addition to the snapshots of the new device, we’re told that the Xperia Z3 will feature some improved internals, including a Qualcomm Krait 450 chip running at 2.5GHz and the Adreno 420 GPU, and the package should benefit from almost double the memory bandwidth of previous models, which should equate to some decent real-world performance gains.

RAM remains the same as the Xperia Z2, at 3GB, and the primary camera looks set to stay as the same punchy 20.7-megapixel offering that has been winning admirers in the Z2. Sadly, it seems that Sony hasn’t beefed up the display, with a 1080 x 1920 IPS LCD featuring on the newer device as well as the current one.

Sony Xperia Z3 release date

According to IT68’s sources the world will be able to get their hands on the Xperia Z3 this August, so if you’re sick of your Xperia Z2 already you’d better get saving, because we’re betting this puppy won’t be cheap.
