Souped up Ovi Maps gets Expedia, Time Out and Qype integration

Nokia’s Ovi Maps app has been doing rather well, with 11m downloads since its launch in February this year; with free satellite navigation, turn-by-turn routing and offline map, it’s a pretty handy beast. But Nokia isn’t resting on its map-based laurels and has announced three more location-based extras for Ovi Maps.

My favourite of the three is Qype integration; if you’re not on Qype or using it to discover new and exciting places, then you really are missing out. In Ovi Maps, you can use Qype to find nearby shops, bars, restaurants, cinemas, museums, transport or whatever you’re after. Best of all, it features reviews written by other users so you can find out quickly and easily whether it’s worth a visit, or if that ‘gourmet seafood café’ is in fact a fish and chip shop.

Travellers will find Expedia a handy addition; geo-searching for nearby hotels means you can check out full descriptions and images before deciding where to stay. You can then make reservations while you’re on-the-go and get comprehensive directions on how to get there.

Finally, joining the line-up is Time Out; if you don’t trust regular joes and their Qype reviews, check out what the professionals think of nearby restaurants, films, music gigs, nightlife and other arts in major cities around the world. It’s launching with London, New York, Chicago, Lisbon, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Sydney, with more to follow.
