Student’s iPad waistcoat wins prize, will go into production

Perhaps we’re not ‘fashion’ enough to understand the appeal, but this ‘bold’ hooded waistcoat is set to become part of Proporta’s range of iPad accessories.

Designed by Anne Ten Have, there’s a sleeve within the waistcoat that both holds the tablet and protects the screen, though we don’t know if it requires some sort of counterbalance in the other pocket to avoid looking lop-sided.

This is one of several prize-winning entries from students at the London College of Fashion, who designed the accessories for Proporta, who offered a £1000 grand prize.

Other winners include a protective clutch bag that doubled as an iPad stand. Jane Francis, Senior Lecturer at the college, said: “The collaboration between the Accessory Design course and Proporta has been a fantastic opportunity for the students to work in a live context within the industry, where professional collaboration and recognition is very valuable.

“The cross-over between fashion design and technology innovation is an exciting growth area within accessories, making the project particularly relevant. “

The winning entries will go on sale in the near-future, but there’s no date confirmed just yet.
