Lamborghini’s posh and seriously limited edition new smartphone, the Tonino Lamborghini 88 Tauri, is a bit of a handful. We go hands-on at CES 2015.
If you fancy grabbing yourself Lamborghini’s new 88 Tauri smartphone, you’ll need to be both quick and rich. This $6300 mobile is seriously limited edition, with just 1947 handsets being made in all. However, there’s no doubting that it’s a serious status symbol, rocking a very unique design.
Complete with gold edging and leather rear, the Tonino Lamborghini 88 Tauri is one of the most distinctive mobiles we’ve ever stroked and fondled. That leather finish gives it a soft, textured feel in the hand, but the 88 Tauri is also a bit of a beast, with some serious body surrounding that 5-inch screen. It’s almost phablet-esque in stature and definitely one to be handled with two mitts.
For this price you’d expect a quality finish of course, and you certainly get it. The Tonino Lamborghini 88 Tauri is solidly constructed, with a display that’s apparently tougher than Gorilla Glass, so you shouldn’t worry if the phone experiences a few crashes with the pavement here and there. It feels ridiculously heavy, but the leather is expertly stitched around the case and the edgy form factor sits neatly in the palm. And we like how each handset has its own unique number ID stamped into the rear.
Of course, that gold and coloured leather body will only appeal to certain types of user and many will stick out their tongues at the extravagance on display. But at least the Tonino Lamborghini 88 Tauri packs some decent specs as well as a unique look and feel, unlike many other expensive fashion phones.
The 5-inch screen is Full HD 1080p and from our brief play seems to be a winner. It’s bright enough to drown out glare from even fierce overhead lights, with sharp, vibrant image reproduction. Of course it isn’t about to trouble the likes of the LG G3’s Quad HD screen, but it’s certainly spacious and attractive enough to make the most of your HD movies.
A 2.3GHz Snapdragon 801 processor is packed inside the Tonino Lamborghini 88 Tauri, again not a serious competitor for the latest handsets which are now emerging with the Snapdragon 810 chipset, but powerful enough to run apps and games and also deal with high-definition video. And we were impressed by the mighty 20-megapixel camera, which boasts a clean UI and near-instant shutter speed.
The Tonino Lamborghini 88 Tauri will be available soon, but better get your order in quick as we’re sure they’ll go as fast as the cars themselves.
