Toshiba ‘Excite’ Android tablet incoming?

This week the annual IFA consumer electronics conference is taking place in Berlin and there are strong rumours circulating that Toshiba will be announcing a new slimline Android tablet that could be called the Excite.

Notebook Italia is reporting the tablet will be the replacement for the Toshiba Thrive tablet, which has been available in the US for a while, but never made it to the UK.

With a brushed metal finish and edge to edge glass, the new tablet appears to be slimmer than the Thrive, with a good selection of on-board connects with micro USB, HDMI and a microSD card slot.

In addition Android Police has reported a recent US Trademark patent filing from Toshiba American Information Systems for the name ‘Excite’ in the Tablet Computer category (see below), leading us to believe the new tablet will be called the Excite.

In addition a series of domain names with names related to tablets have been registered by Toshiba and redirect straight to the Toshiba website. These include: toshibaexcite.com and excitetablet.com

This is only speculation at the moment, but we think a tablet announcement is highly likely. Especially considering it was this exact time 12-months ago Toshiba announced the Folio 100, a very disappointing Android tablet that made it to the UK before being pulled by the company.

With its strong PC heritage and the cross-platform content sharing of Toshiba Places that we’ve seen in the company’s 3D televisions, we’ve high expectations from a new tablet, so we’ll bring you more news as soon as we get it.
