Twitter has announced that its official iPhone app now offers push notifications for @mentions.
There is one restriction – you’ll only receive alerts when a Twitter account that you follow mentions you. If you’re not following an account, you won’t be bothered.
“When you’re out and about, your phone probably isn’t always right in front of you,” Twitter’s blog post begins. Shows what they know, but still – we’re not always using Twitter so we’ll let this one slide.
To take advantage of the alerts, simply download the latest version of Twitter for iPhone from the App Store; push notifications on Twitter for Android and Twitter for Windows Phone 7 should be hot on its heels, according to the blog post.
