Video: The World’s First Augmented Reality Hotel

If you visit the Holiday Inn London Kensington in the near future, you’ll be able to interact with some of Britain’s Olympians using your smartphone or tablet at the World’s First Augmented Reality Hotel.

Dotted around the hotel are ‘auras’ (augmented reality hotspots) standing in these positions and firing up one of the supplied Samsung Galaxy Notes lets you view some of Britain’s Olympic hopefuls. Alternatively you can use an AR app (like Poynt or Layer) on a smartphone or tablet

Olympian and World Champion windsurfer Nick Dempsey goes windsurfing in a bedroom, 4 x World BMX Champion Shanaze Reade takes a virtual spin around reception, Paralympic table tennis player Will Bayley fires table tennis balls at you from behind reception and long jumper Chris Tomlinson leaps down the corridor.

Holiday Inn is the Official Hotel Provider to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and will also be hosting athletes in the Olympic and Paralympic Village during the Games. Mike Greenup from Holiday Inn said: ‘The augmented reality gives guests a behind the scenes look at real athletes as they prepare for London 2012 in and around the hotel.”
