Vodafone is the latest company to enter the mobile payments game. Big Red has launched its own mobile wallet in Europe, designed to handle not just mobile payments, but also gift cards, vouchers, and loyalty cards. Just like every other wallets on the market, Vodafone is hoping that its own will be a single solution for any on the go payments.
And just like other solutions, Vodafone’s wallet and SmartPass payment service use NFC. SmartPass will let customers pay at any place that accepts contactless Visa payments through NFC, with support baked in for Sony, Samsung, and HTC phones. Vodafone says that additional devices will be supported in the future.
Vodafone’s payment combo has already launched in Spain, although it will expand to Germany in December, then the Netherlands and the UK sometime in Spring 2014.
