Each week we search the web to bring you some of the best mobile phone, tablet and sim deals. This week we’ve got two of our favourite Android smartphones, the Samsung Galaxy S2 and Sony Xperia S at great contract prices, a surprisingly low price for a brand new offering from LG and a fantastic sim-only deal from Three, suitable for any unlocked mobile phone.
Sony Xperia S: free for £21.50 a month
The Sony Xperia S is the first mobile phone to land since Sony Ericsson became Sony Mobile and a bit of a design revolution for the company, with strong angles. Powered by a dual-core processor it has a 4.3-inch HD screen and although it launched Android 2.3: Gingerbread, an update to Ice Cream Sandwich has been promised.
In this deal, which comes directly from O2, the phone is free on the 24-month O2 200 Extra tariff, which includes 500MB data and 250 O2 to O2 minutes for £21.50 a month. If you need more data, you can select 1GB, which will push the price up to £25.50 a month, or opting for just 100MB reduces the monthly cost to £18.50. To get the most from the phone we’d suggest opting for at least 500MB though. [link]
Three sim-only: 300 minutes, 1GB data for £10 a month
Sim-only contracts are often overlooked, but they’re a great option for anyone who already has a phone and with data offerings of around 500MB are usually better value than PAYG.
Available via Tesco Phone Shop, this free Three sim costs £10 a month on a 12-month contract, which nets you 300 minutes, 3000 texts and a very tasty 1GB data.
As an added incentive you’ll get 2000 Tesco Clubcard points. This equates to £20 Tesco vouchers, which you can use in-store, but for even better value trade them for Tesco rewards. Every £5 Tesco voucher gets you £20 worth of restaurant vouchers to spend at places Pizza Express or Prezzo, or £15 gets you a free magazine subscription.[link]
Samsung Galaxy S2 – free for £21.50 a month
Another Tesco Phone Shop deal, this time on one of our favourite handsets from 2011, the Samsung Galaxy S2 – winner of Smartphone of the year at the very first Recombu Awards. It’s also due an update to Android 4.0: Ice Cream Sandwich very soon.
The Samsung Galaxy S2 is free on a 24-month contract on O2, with 200 minutes and unlimited texts, 500MB data and 20 free multimedia messages. [link]
LG Optimus L7 – £254.88 sim free
LG was pretty quiet at the end of 2011, with the exception of the LG Prada 3.0. Announced at MWC, the LG Optimus L7 is a slightly more affordable phone, the flagship handset in LG’s new LG-Style rand. We had a play with it in Barcelona and were impressed, it’s just 8.8mm deep, yet has a 4.3-inch screen and 1Ghz processor.
Unlocked Mobiles is selling it for the sim-free price of £254.98, which we think is a bit of a bargain considering the specification sheet although there’s no release date as yet. [link]
