Worms has been raising hell on a range of computers, console and handheld devices for more than a decade now, including iPhone. Now its developer, Team17 Software, has released Worms 2: Armageddon, a Universal app for iPhone and iPad.
The core aim remains the same – to blast the living daylights out of other teams of worms, while protecting your own. Weapons range from basic shotguns through to napalm strikes, petrol bombs, drills and poison strikes. Plus, if you’re a longstanding fan, you’ll appreciate the inclusion of sillier weapons like the Holy Hand Grenade, Super Sheep and Concrete Donkey.
You can play the game alone in Campaign Mode, which offers 30 missions spread across five themes. However, there are also several multiplayer modes, including a local Bluetooth option to play against 2-3 friends, and online Wi-Fi battles against other players around the world.
The list of features is huge: Plus+ support for achievements, high-score tables and friend lists – although alas, there’s no Game Center support yet. Scores can be bragged about on Twitter and Facebook, and you can monkey about to your heart’s content with the game’s settings and personalisation features.
It looks good, has huge depth, and will run across your iPhone and iPad without you having to pay twice. Marvellous stuff.
