Following the stream of announcements regarding who’ll be stocking the heavily-previewed Xperia Play, it looks like it will be available from O2, Vodafone, and now both Orange and T-Mobile are also set to offer what was previously known as the PlayStation Phone.
Pocket Lint also managed to glean from their spokesperson that the phone should arrive here around April. This should mean the Xperia Play’s stablemate, the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc, will get little, if any, head-start on the game-centric phone
Sony Ericsson’s Xperia Play has been heavily leaked across the web, from fuzzy stills last year to full blown hands-on previews in the last few months. There’s been a lot of build-up around the first ‘branded’ PlayStation phone, and many are hoping they don’t pull a ‘Nokia N-Gage’, and mess it up.
According to Sony Ericsson’s very own Facebook page, the Android Gingerbread-powered phone’s official unveiling is scheduled to be in Barcelona this Sunday at around 6pm. The announcement will be just one of countless more at the huge mobile event that is Mobile World Congress, and we’ll be there to both gawk and report on how it feels to play games as varied as Tekken and Angry Birds on this unholy hybrid.
A bit of wireless handheld Tekken during your lunch break is still a very intriguing proposition.
We spoke to Three earlier today, to see if they’d be following suit with an Xperia Play-themed announcement, and they declined to comment. This morning, the Three blog team tweeted a link to that creepy Android Xperia Play video doing the rounds. When asked if this meant we could be seeing it on Three, they replied that,“We just thought the video was brilliant ;-)”. Hmm…
