Yahoo confirms IMAP mail problems using data but WP7 specific.

The WP7 phantom data problems are due to problems with Yahoo! Mail’s IMAP account according to a statement released by the company.

“Yahoo! Mail is widely available on tens of millions of mobile phones, including those running on Apple iOS, Android, Nokia Symbian, and RIM. The issue on the Windows phones is specific to how Microsoft chose to implement IMAP for Yahoo! Mail and does not impact Yahoo! Mail on these other mobile devices. Yahoo! has offered to provide Microsoft a near-term solution for the implementation they chose, and is encouraging Microsoft to change to a standard way of integrating with Yahoo! Mail, which would result in a permanent fix.”

The reason for the problems appears to be the way in which Microsoft implements IMAP on mobile. Not good news for the company who Google accused this morning of copying search results.

Things were looking up for WP7 this morning with increasing sales throughout the OS’s launch quarter. However Microsoft needs to get things fixed sharpish if they hope not to damage the new operating systems rep.
