ZTE is one of the world’s biggest smartphone makers. What? You’ve never heard of them? Last year, the China-based ZTE was the 4th largest phone-maker in the world, leap-frogging Apple. They mean business.
One of their hit phones in the UK was the ZTE Blade, rebranded by Orange into the sleeper hit mid-price Android phone, the San Francisco.
Similar to its older brother, the Skate (named after the board, not the fish, we’re told) the phone may not have the fastest processor, sharpest screen, or thinnest profile to compete with the likes of these dual-core monsters and high-end Xperia phones.
But the phone will have the latest version of Android, Gingerbread, shown on a 4.3-inch screen, along with a five-megapixel camera on the back.
We’re interested to see whether that Android design will be there on the final product. We’ve sent our man in Barcelona to get some real hands-on time with the phone. More coming soon.
ZTE say we should get to see the Skate some time in May.
