LG teases G2 announcement for upcoming August 7th event

We’ve seen quite a few leaks of what’s believed to be the successor to last year’s LG Optimus G, and it looks like LG is finally ready to show off its next phone to the world. The company has sent out invites to publications for an event in New York City on August 7th, dropping a fairly obvious hint as to what we’ll be seeing.

Android Central has the full invite image, with LG putting the key piece of text front and center: “Great 2 Have You!” We already have a rough idea of what the company has in store for the so-called G2 as well. The company announced last month that its next flagship handset – presumably the LG G2 – would include Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 processor, which has been benchmarking extremely well.

Leaked promotional images of the phone have also pointed towards the design that LG is going for. The company looks to be ditching physical capacitive Android navigation buttons in favour of onscreen alternatives, with what looks to be an edge-to-edge display fully occupying the front of the handset. The back is even more unusual, though.

Rather than placing the volume buttons on the side of the phone, LG seems to have placed them in between the device’s camera. That’s a detail that has been previously rumoured as well, with LG reportedly moving the volume rocker to try and cut down on the phone’s thickness.

We’ll find out exactly what LG has in store for us on August 7th, and we’ll bring you all of the news out of the event. In the meantime, check out LG’s teaser video below.
