Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 officially announced along with a new-look Galaxy Tab 10.1

Samsung has just taken the wraps off of its Galaxy Tab 8.9 at its Unpacked event in CTIA, along with a svelte new redesigned Galaxy Tab 10.1.

As was expected, the Galaxy Tab 8.9 has a 1Ghz dual-core processor and runs on Android 3.0 Honeycomb. It’s got a 3-megapixel main camera with an LED flash that’s capable of recording HD video (at 720p) and a front-facing 2-megapixel camera for those all-important video calls.

It’s also capable of 1080p Full HD video playback and features Samsung’s new custom Android skin called Samsung TouchWiz UX and the Mini Apps Tray quick launcher.

At the same time, Samsung also announced a redesigned Galaxy Tab 10.1 (below) – one that’s now 8.6mm thick and features a slightly different back cover to the ones we’ve seen before.

Spec wise, the two Tabs are more or less the same, save for the obvious difference of the screen size. The Galaxy Tab 10.1 has a 3-megapixel main camera (again, LED flash and 720p recording) and a 2-megapixel front-facer.

Again, like the Galaxy Tab 8.9, this new Tab 10.1 features the new TouchWiz UX custom overlay and Mini Apps launcher.

Both tablets will come with Adobe Flash Player 10.2 and both have had their screens pixel counts cranked up to 1280 x 800. Presumably this is to compete with the iPad 2s 1024 x 768 display.
