Sky Go app coming to Samsung Galaxy S2, HTC Sensation and others next month

Sky Go, the streaming service that’s available for iPhone and iPad is coming to a handful of high-end Android phones next month.

Sky Go allows you to watch 39 of Sky’s TV channels live on your phone over 3G and Wi-Fi on your iOS device and will be heading to brace of Android phones including the Samsung Galaxy S2 and the HTC Sensation.

The full line up of Android phones to get SkyGo is as follows:

  • HTC Desire
  • HTC Desire S
  • HTC Desire HD
  • HTC Incredible S
  • HTC Sensation
  • Samsung Galaxy S
  • Samsung Galaxy S2

Channels available include Sky 1, Sky News, Sky Movies and Recombu favourite Sky Atlantic. Game of Thrones on the Sensation’s qHD screen? Yes please, we’ll have some of that.

All Sky Sports channels, that’s 1 through to 4 plus Sky Sports News come included, as well as ESPN.

Though you’ll get access to live content on the Sky Movies channels, we understand that on-demand movies via the Android SkyGo app will come on line ‘later in 2012’ – nothing more concrete than that at the moment.

We asked if other Android phones (and tablets) would be supported in future. The Sky spokesperson we asked “couldn’t confirm” which devices would be getting the SkyGo app in future but we were told that there’s an effort to “continue to bring more devices on board. Sky will be assessing demand going forwards.”

Holly Knill, Head of Sky Go, said: “Sky Go is all about helping more people watch the TV they love wherever and whenever it suits them, so I’m delighted to announce the roll out of Sky Go to Android. We know how much Android users have been looking forward to the launch of Sky Go on Android smartphones, and we’ve done everything we can to make sure that our bespoke design is worth waiting for.

“This latest announcement is all part of the process of constant evolution that has seen Sky Go move from strength to strength over its first six months, and we look forward to bringing more developments to the service as the year progresses.”
