Original Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 to be renamed the 10.1V, still Vodafone exclusive

It’s official: the slimmed-down, size zero Galaxy Tab 10.1 that Samsung announced at CTIA this week will be winging its way to the UK. But what of the original Tab 10.1? The slightly bigger ’round the sides one that’s Vodafone exclusive?

Well it turns out that one will still be coming exclusively to Vodafone, but it’s to be rechristened the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1V.

Vodafone confirmed to us this morning that the Galaxy Tab 10.1V, will feature stock/vanilla Android 3.0 instead of the snazzy new TouchWiz UX overlay that will debut on the new Tab 10.1, and the smaller Galaxy Tab 8.9.

The Tab 10.1V also features a more powerful 8-megapixel camera than the new skinny Tab 10.1, which comes with a 3-megapixel main camera. Both iterations of the Tab 10.1 have 2-megapixel front-facers, so the quality of video calls made on the two devices should be more or less the same.

The Vodafone-only Tab 10.1V will also come in 16GB and 32GB editions, whereas the Tab 10.1 will come in 16, 32 and 64GB versions. The new Tab 10.1 also has a microSD slot, and can take cards up to 32GB in size.

So you’ve got the option of taking a more powerful camera over a slightly slimmer device with more storage potential.

To clarify:

Vodafone-only Tab 10.1V – 8-megapixel main camera, no microSD slot, 16GB and 32GB.

New-look slim Tab 10.1 – 3-megapixel camera, yes microSD slot, 16GB, 32GB and 64GB

Capice?

ETA’s and prices for both devices have yet to be announced – we’ll let you know as soon as we hear otherwise.
