A campaign has been launched to help drivers avoid a costly parking prang this festive period. Those wanting to brush up on the techniques can watch a series of how to parking videos that feature three Arsenal Football Club players.
A survey conducted as part of the #ParkingHero campaign by Citroen UK and the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) shows a quarter of UK drivers have collided with another car when parking. Half of that figure admitted to making a quick exit to avoid taking responsibility and dodge the repair bill.
Almost 50 per cent of UK drivers said they feared supermarket car parks the most. 28 per cent said multi-storey car parks were the scariest for getting into a space, putting them in second place, while on-street parking came in third place with 17 per cent of the votes.
63 per cent, meanwhile, said they end up avoiding the first space they find. One of the reasons for this, according to the survey, stems from drivers wanting to find a space without other cars nearby. 18 to 24-year-old drivers were the most likely to adopt this ‘careful’ approach to parking.
The survey looked at 1,000 male and 1,000 female drivers from the UK.
Citroen is no stranger to parking. Its C4 Cactus features Airbump panels that are designed to protect against minor bumps and scrapes associated with car park accidents. Toyota is another car manufacturer keen to ease parking woes.
