Jaguar calls its forthcoming SUV the F-Pace

The name of Jaguar’s soon to be unveiled SUV has been leaked, and it’s not what many of us would have guessed. According to reports on the Internet, the sports crossover will be known as the Jaguar F-Pace.

Yup, we know what you’re thinking, “what the actual f#%*?” We’re thinking the same thing. The name doesn’t roll as seamlessly off the tongue as it might, particularly as it shares the same ‘F-‘ lettering as the F-Type sports car. Word is, the name draws on Jaguar’s “grace, pace and space slogan” from the 1950s and 1960s.

Here’s hoping Jaguar steers clear of producing F-Grace and F-Space models.

Strange as the name may be, the new car is bound to be a corker. It will be based very much like the C-X17 concept revealed at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show and will go head to head with the likes of this Porsche Macan and BMW X4, placing it in the just-about-affordable-for-a-premium-SUV £35,000 price bracket.

The new F-Pace will go on sale in 2016 and will be built at Jaguar’s new lightweight technology facility at Solihull, creating 1,300 jobs in the process.

What do you honk of the F-Pace? Do you like the name? Should Jaguar have gone for something a little further from the F-Type? Would you consider buying one over rivals from Porsche or BMW? Let us know in the comments below.
