Ariel Atoms, Bugatti Veyrons and Koenigsegg Agera Esses are the undisputed kings of the zero to 60mph drag, but they could face hefty competition from the blistering new Nissan GT-R Nismo edition. A source at the 2013 Goodwood Festival of Speed has told Auto Express the GT-R Nismo model will hit 60mph from standing in just 2 seconds.
To put that into perspective, the Ariel Atom V8 accelerates to 60mph in a little under three seconds, the insanely expensive Veyron SuperSport 2.4 seconds and a Koenigsegg Agera One in 2.8 seconds. So the NIssan is doing pretty well considering it’ll cost less than £100,000.
That’s still a lot of dosh, but it’s worth every penny since it’ll make every boy racer thing twice about trying it on at a set of traffic lights. Here’s hoping the GT-R Nismo has plenty of obvious styling tweaks to help ram the message home that this isn’t an ordinary Datsun.
It’s worth noting the 2 second time is for 0 to 60mph, not 0 to 62mph, which is the equivalent of 0 to 100kmh. The Nismo GT-R will obviously take a little extra time to hit those extra 2mph. How much time? We will have to wait and see as we head towards its launch early in 2014.
Until then, you can get a feel for what the GT-R Nismo is likely to achieve by watching the GT-R-engined Nissan Juke-R in action.
