Remote control Subaru WRX STI takes on a StickBomb

Subaru WRX STI vs StickBomb YouTube video is worthy of your time.

We had absolutely no idea what a StickBomb was until we watched this video. And now we’re equipped with that knowledge, we can definitely say the RC Subaru WRX STI vs StickBomb YouTube video is 1 minute and 57 seconds well spent.

A StickBomb, for the uninitiated, is basically the modern-day equivalent of a domino cascade. Flat wooden sticks akin to ice lolly sticks are arranged in a lattice format to create tension. Take one out and the entire line of sticks falls apart in rapid succession, causing a wave of wooden chaos.

Subaru decided to film a remote control WRX STI racing against a StickBomb, resulting in a brilliant combination of slow-motion, apex-nudging drifts, jumps, miniature obstacle dodging and sublime camera work.

So far the video, which was published on March 4th 2014, has amassed 1,119,595 views and more than 10,000 likes, making it a viral success. The accompanying ‘making of video’ (see below) has nearly 40,000 hits.

We dislike corporate marketing as much as the next man, but we have to admit Subaru has done a fine job with this one – it’s worth watching for the insane remote control driving skills alone. The effort its makers have gone to is staggering.

Remote control videos seem to be in fashion these days, as most recently demonstrated by the RC version of Gymkhana 6.
