Rezvani Beast supercar is an Ariel Atom in clothes

Carbon fibre body + Ariel Atom = Lightning quick supercar.

Not familiar with Rezvani Motors? Neither were we until the Californian start-up teased the world with an image of the ‘Beast’ roadster back in March of this year. Now we have the full shebang to feast our peep holes on – and boy was it worth the wait.

0 to 62mph in 2.7 seconds…

Rezvani’s Beast comes in two forms: Beast 300 and Beast 500. The former has a 2.0-litre turbo that outputs 311bhp and can do 0 to 62mph in 2.9 seconds, while the latter gets a 493bhp 2.4-litre supercharged V8 that can manage the same in 2.7 seconds ─ assuming, of course, you can shift through the 6-speed manual gearbox fast enough.

To put that into perspective, the McLaren P1, Porsche 918 and Ferrarl La Ferrari hybrid supercars would get a run for their money below 62mph. Only the new Nissan GT-R could top it.

Underneath the carbon fibre body work lies an Ariel Atom. The addition of bodywork makes the Beast 300 weigh 667kg, which is 117kg more than the Atom 3.5R but still substantially less than virtually any supercar or sportscar. Even the heftier V8 is a mere 704kg.

Although you still don’t get a boot, windscreen, roof or anything resembling creature comforts, you can specify hinged doors to simulate the effect of ‘getting into a fighter plane’. There’s also the benefit of its aerodynamic design, which is the work of Samir Sadikhov (ex-Lambo designer), to increase downforce and cut through the air better than an open-wheeled car like the Atom.

You can turn your existing Ariel Atom into a Rezvani Beast, if you so desire. Just send US$49,000 (£29,000) for the 2.0-litre and US$69,000 (£40,800) for the 2.4-litre Atom and, hey presto. Other options such as an optional glass windshield can be specified.

Alternatively you can buy an entire Rezvani Beast 300 and Beast 500 for US$119,000 (about £70,000) and US$139,000 (about £82,000), respectively, and be safe in the knowledge the number of cars that are faster can be counted on one hand. Each car is made-to-order so expect a bit of a wait.

Rezvani Motors is a new kid on the block so there’s an element of risk if you part with your cash for its latest creation. After all, the Rezvani Buletta never materialised. But it’s probably a risk worth taking as the Ariel Atom is a solid, mighty fast car and we think the styling of the Beast is top-notch.
