Acer’s Iconia Smart isn’t quite as big as the Streak. But its 4.8-inch screen (a mere 0.2-inches shy of the Streak’s 5, mind) puts it above that of your average smartphone, at least in the screen size stakes.
As well as having a big display area, that screen has a 21:9 display ratio and a resolution of 1024 x 480. Sounds perfect for watching videos, or catching up on episodes of Strictly on the iPlayer app.
There’s also an HDMI port for hooking up to an HD Ready TV set should you wish to do so. Those of you lucky enough to own a DLNA-compatible TV can hook up the Iconia Smart sans wires instead.
Sadly, a scrappy Wi-Fi signal prevented us from putting the Iconia Smart’s video playing prowess to the test. But we did manage to grab a few snaps of the phone in all its glory.
So without further ado, here’s a few snaps of the Acer Iconia Smart to whet your appetite.
Up and on the right sits an 8-megapixel camera, bolstered by a single LED flash. The patterned metal design on the back of the Iconia Smart follows that of the Liquid Metal; another Acer Android phone.
Dedicated camera shutter key on the left here, with a volume rocker on the right. The metallic finish of the back of the Iconia Smart extends across the sides of the phone. It’s pretty heavy in the hand, but that’s not a bad thing; it feels solid and durable.
The HDMI and micro USB ports are protected by a dust cover which pops out easily and fits snugly back into place.
The top of the Acer Iconia Smart, where the 3.5mm headphone jack and all-important power button live. From this angle is looks like a bit like a baguette, halved lengthways. Maybe we’re only thinking that because we haven’t properly eaten since we got up this morning.
We’ll make sure we’ve had a decent lunch before we review the Iconia Smart in full, lest we smother it in passata and Leerdammer and bung it in the microwave.
