Apple to reveal new iPad Mini with Retina Display tomorrow

Looks like tomorrow’s Apple launch may be a double delight, as the third iPad Mini could debut alongside the iPad Air 2.

We’re only 24-hours from Apple’s October 16 launch event, and we already know that we’ll be seeing a brand new iPad Air 2. However, if the latest internet rumblings are correct, we might also (finally) get a fresh iPad Mini with Retina Display – despite all the talk of the next dinky iPad being delayed to 2015.

General rumours and leaks regarding the next iPad Mini have been strangely muted of late. Many ‘in the know’ characters have weighed in and poured cold water on rumours that the device would be released soon, or that it would see much in the way of hardware upgrades. KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo was foremost among them, stating that the next Mini would only get an update to Touch ID and very little else, but it appears that many of these smart folks might have been off the mark.

A story which turned up on Mac Otakara, a well-known Japanese Mac blog, claims that the third iPad Mini will feature a boost in display tech after all. Not only that, it will also be presented alongside its big brother at tomorrow’s Apple event.

According to this new rumour, which is ostensibly sourced at the highest and most trustworthy level, the new iPad Mini with Retina Display will also get Touch ID as planned. Other details are sketchy, but we’d expect to see Apple’s latest A8 processor, possibly an even slimmer design and maybe one or two little surprises.

As with all Apple rumours, we’re filing this one in the burgeoning ‘maybe’ pile which we’ve accrued over the past months – but at least we haven’t got long to wait before we find out. Check back for the full news from Apple’s launch event.
