But a smaller Apple slate is apparently still on the cards according to MarketWatch, who says that Apple is “working with component suppliers in Asia to test a new tablet computer with a smaller screen,” according to unnamed people “familiar to the situation.”
The report goes on to say that the smaller iPad will have a screen of “around” 8-inches that’ll boast a higher resolution screen than that of the iPad 2, plus it’ll will be compatible with the 4G/LTE networks of Verizon and AT&T in the US.
Last November we heard a rumour that a smaller iPad with a 7.85-inch screen and a Retina Display pixel count was in production and was due to be “shipped in January. With volumes gearing up in February and March.” While we heard noting in January about such a device, we can’t rule out the possibility of two tablets tasking centre stage on the 7th of March.
Again, healthy pinches of salt are required to season such speculation; we’ll know for sure when the boat comes in.
