HP Pre 3: Pre-orders goes up, then down, release date 8 July

It’s been a while since we’ve heard from HP on their forthcoming Pre 3 and Veer phones.

Set to arrive with the hotly anticipated webOS system, it will have some very swish features including Touch2Share, where you’ll be able to transfer content on the phone or HP’s TouchPad tablet with a tap.

Enter Play.com, who tentatively pegged the HP Pre 3 release date at 8 July 2011. Spotted by Pre Central, the online retailer soon deleted both the date, and its £350 price-tag.

We hope the Pre 3 arrives around the same time as the HP TouchPad, whose release is also estimated to arrive around July. HP are currently building up to the TouchPad release, so we expect we may get our hands on the tablet ahead of the phone.

The Pre 3 has a 3.6-inch WVGA touchscreen display, with a resolution of 480×800. It’ll have only the single processor in it, but that’ll be running at a zippy 1.4GHz. We’ll have to wait and see how a single-core webOS phone compares with dual-core Android offerings. Storage-wise, the Pre 3 is set to come in both 8GB and 16GB sizes.

Like the BlackBerry PlayBook and a BlackBerry handset, pairing together the devices makes them greater than the sum of their parts- but you may need some deep pockets; with current pre-order prices, the pair could set you back a collective £750.

We’ll keep you updated with any changes.
