We first clapped eyes on the Nokia N8 back in March, when Nokia promised Symbian^3 with improved all-round performance – and it looks like we could be in for a treat.
In a benchmarking test carried out by finestfones, it appears that the Nokia N8 runs about 180% faster than an N97 and 54% faster than a Samsung Omnia i8910 HD. This hints at the capabilities of the N8, suggesting that it may be able to juggle HD video playback and other applications without breaking a sweat.
There’s still a bit of a wait before the UK will enjoy the fruits of these tests though; GSMArena has suggested a potential release date of August 24th, the date on which Amazon Germany suggests it will be shipping orders. We contacted Nokia for confirmation but we were told that no release date had been agreed. If this release date is genuine, then it’s likely that it’ll be for a Europe-wide release.
