Samsung launches Galaxy Note 5, but no UK release in 2015

One of the worst-kept secrets of 2015, the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 has been officially revealed alongside the all-new bigger S6 Edge+ handset, packing some seriously premium specs. Here’s everything we know about the Galaxy Note 5, but bad news – it won’t be coming to the UK.

Samsung Galaxy Note 5: Design

For the past year, after churning out countless plasticky ugly handsets, Samsung has finally started to give a damn about how good its phones look and feel.

The Galaxy Note 5 follows on from the excellent Note 4 foundations, with a sleek metallic build that’s gorgeous to look at and firm in the hand (ahem), and not too hefty at 171g. At 7.6mm it’s quite slim too, if not quite matching the impressively slender S6 Edge+.

Samsung Galaxy Note 5: Specs

The Note 5 isn’t betraying the range’s phablet roots, with a mighty 5.7-inch Super-AMOLED display in place – although somehow that doesn’t seem quite as ridiculous as before, with standard flagships now packing screens up to 5.5-inches.

And although there were rumours of a 4k resolution, Samsung has wisely stuck with a still-perfectly-sharp Quad HD panel. At 515 pixels-per-inch, that’ll make your HD movies look amazing and help artistic users to produce works with stunning levels of detail.

Samsung’s own 64-bit octa-core Exynos processor powers the Note 5, backed by 4GB of RAM. In other words, performance is guaranteed to be sh*t-hot.

You’ll also find a 16-megapixel camera poking out of the back of the Note 5, just like the Galaxy S6. And around the front there’s a 5-megapixel snapper to shoot your gorgeous mug.

One of the big questions before the Note 5’s launch was: will it pack a microSD memory card slot, to expand the on-board storage? Well, sadly the answer is a big fat no. You’re stuck with the 32GB or 64GB of built-in space, a step back from last year’s Note 4.

Samsung Galaxy Note 5: UK price and release date

The Galaxy Note 5 will not be coming to the UK, so you’ll need to import it from overseas. The Note 5 will be released in America, costing $739 for the 32GB model and $839 for the 64GB model.
