A helping of Android 2.3 Gingerbread has just been taken out of the Vodafone ovens, to the delight of patient Samsung Galaxy S owners.
The awaited update is available to download now via Samsung Kies. First of all, download Kies here on your computer connect your Galaxy S via USB. You should get prompted to start the upgrade, which shows up at ‘i9000BUJV4’.
Kies is still Windows-only unfortunately, so if you’ve got a Mac, then you best give one of your PC-owning mates a call.
Improvements that Android 2.3 Gingerbread brings to Galaxy S owners includes improved app and battery management and a new text selection/cut and paste tool.
Vodafone also says that the ability to enable the ‘Use only 2G networks’ setting has been restored in this update. This useful feature is ideal if you’re roaming as it means you won’t be using 3G, thereby avoiding any extra data charges.
Galaxy S owners on other networks will need to wait a little while. We’ve just spoken to all the other networks who tell us that Gingerbread will be hitting the Galaxy S “imminently” – we’ll let you know when all the updates will be rolling in across all the networks so stay tuned.
