Unusually, Sony started its ICS device rollout on its 2011 handsets, including the Sony Xperia Arc, Sony Xperia Active and the Sony Xperia Mini, although unfortunately not the Sony Xperia Play.

The August timeline makes sense, considering the flagship Sony Xperia S has just started to get the update to ICS starting with UK customers on Three, Although there have been reports of problems updating the software. If the Xperia P is set for an early August update, we imagine the Xperia U update will follow.

At the moment we’re not sure if the ICS update will be available in the UK in early August as well as Italy, but we’ll keep you updated with news when we get it. If you’re an Xperia P owner, let us know via Facebook or Twitter when you get your bite of Ice Cream Sandwich.
