Everything we know so far about the Sony Xperia Z3 smartphone, including leaked photos, specs, and possible UK price and release date…
Sony’s Xperia flagship phones seem to come along quicker than shots of Britney Spears’ undercrackers, with nary more than a few months between each launch. The Xperia Z2 was unveiled by Sony at MWC 2014 in February, despite the Xperia Z1 only emerging at IFA 2013 last September, and we wouldn’t be too shocked to see the Xperia Z3 launched on September 3rd at IFA 2014.
As with every flagship smartphone, the inevitable leaks have already trickled onto the t’interwebs. Here’s what we know so far about the Sony Xperia Z3…
Sony Xperia Z3 photos and design
We’ve already seen the Xperia Z3 snapped in a haphazard fashion by sneaky bloggers, and so far it (shock, horror, etc) looks just like the Xperia Z1 and Z2. Here’s a slightly blurry snap of the Xperia Z3 next to a Samsung Galaxy Note 3. We can only roughly guess, but the Xperia Z3 seems to be another 5.2-incher, although there’s talk of this one being thinner and lighter than previous models.
A ropey shot of the Xperia Z3 sat next to an alleged Xperia Z3 Compact has also emerged, although we’ve got no concrete details on the dinkier model:
You can expect both phones to be fully water resistant, a staple of the Xperia series, so you can browse your favourite website (it’s Recombu, right?) while splishing and splashing in the bath. God bless you, technology!
Sony Xperia Z3 specs
Another leaked shot of the Sony Xperia Z3 gives away a couple of the inner workings, namely NFC and the rear camera. It’s no shock to see NFC on board as usual, but we’re a teeny bit surprised to see the same 20.7-megapixel camera plugged into the Xperia Z3.
That’s not to say we’re disappointed, of course. The Xperia Z1’s 20.7-meg snapper is still excellent, and the Xperia Z2’s camera, while retaining the same on-paper 20.7-meg lens, added some great little upgrades such as 4k video recording. And do you actually need more than 20 megapixels on a smartphone camera? Nope, not really.
Another leaked shot of the Xperia Z3. Just ignore the bit about ‘Do NOT upload photos of prototype’. Whoops.
But of course, many phone shoppers simply look at the specs when they’re shopping around, and if they see that the Xperia Z3 has the same camera tech as the previous two generations, they might wonder: what’s the point of spunking out all that extra cash for the latest model?
We’re hoping that Sony will answer that with some killer new features…
Sony Xperia Z3 UK price and release date
If the Xperia Z3 does indeed launch on September 3rd at IFA, you can expect to see it in UK stores by the end of September 2014. Pricing will almost certainly be around £499 SIM-free, and contract prices will likely start at £29-£35 per month if you want the phone for free.
