Unlocked LG Optimus 2X’s getting Android 2.3 Gingerbread today, Optimus 3D and Optimus Black later this month

Ice Cream Sandwich? What’s that when it’s at home? Owners of the LG Optimus 2X may well be feeling a little miffed, having heard that Samsung Galaxy S2 owners are to enjoy the delights of Ice Cream Sandwich in due course; sadly though the Optimus 2X isn’t invited to the Ice Cream party. No caek for you.

Some salve then coming in the form of this announcement over on LG’s Facebook page, that unlocked 2X’s, 3D’s and Black’s are all set to get updates to Android 2.3 Gingerbread this month.

Owners of unlocked LG Optimus 2X’s will be getting 2.3 Gingerbread delivered as an update today, with those who’ve purchased it on contract getting it later in the month as the networks get on with their tests.

LG says that the “timing of the upgrades in each market may vary because of the different requirements in each country with respect to domestic operators and models.”

A post over on LG’s Facebook page reveals a rollout timetable for the Optimus 3D and Optimus Black as well:

“The three premium smartphones of the Optimus Series will be upgraded first, as outlined below, followed by a global rollout thereafter.

LG Optimus 2X: Now available (as of 1st November, 2011) for open models in Europe
LG Optimus 3D: Week commencing November 21st for open models in Europe
LG Optimus Black: Week commencing November 28th for open models in Europe”

We’ve been in contact with LG regarding how to actually go about installing Android 2.3 Gingerbread on your LG Optimus 2X. As has been the case in the past with this patching update, we’re assuming that the update process with require you to plug your 2X in to your computer and download over the web.

More information on how to do this along with network rollout for all the phones as soon as we can get it.
