Virgin has unveiled its contract prices for the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, and they’re the cheapest to be found in the UK, starting from just £31 a month on one of its Freestyle tariffs – provided you’re a Virgin Media customer.
You can pick up the 32GB Galaxy S6 from April 10th, in either Sapphire Black, Pearl White or Platinum Gold, on one of Virgin’s flexible ‘Freestyle’ deals, which will also let you increase or decrease your allowance every 30 days depending on your needs.
If you’re after the 64GB iteration you’ll have to stump up a bit more – £37 a month – and if you’ve got your heart set on the quirky Galaxy S6 Edge then you’ll be looking at £48 a month. And while that’s by no means cheap, when you factor in the lack of upfront payment for the device, it’s much more appealing.
However, if you aren’t a Virgin Media customer you can expect to pay an extra £5 a month – which puts Virgin’s prices in line with Tesco Mobile’s. Check out our complete Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge contract comparison guide.
These cheapy tariffs only include 250MB of data, but with unlimited texts and 250 minutes they could be a decent option for someone who spends a lot of time on Wi-Fi, or is willing to forego YouTube streaming on the move to own the best smartphone around.
To try and assuage the lack of decent 4G data allowance, Virgin is giving subscribers access to a series of Wi-Fi hotspots up and down the country. However, if you’re out of their range you can expect both the 4G-ready Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge to chew through 250MB in no time at all – and with excess usage priced at £1 a day, it could end up being costly.
Currently, EE is offering the 32GB Galaxy S6 for £43.49 a month with unlimited texts and minutes and 4GB of 4G data, though the device will cost you £49.99 up front. Similarly, O2’s offering is £38 a month with unlimited minutes and texts but only 2GB data and, again, the device will set you back £49.99.
Perhaps the nearest competitor to Virgin’s deal is Tesco Mobile, who are currently offering the device up for £36 a month with nothing up front, for 1000 minutes, 5000 texts and 1GB of data.
