Vodafone has just released its new Smart N8 mobile phone here in the UK, packing seriously impressive specs for the low price of £85. From the HD screen to the fingerprint sensor and 13-megapixel rear camera, the Vodafone Smart N8 is already a contender for best budget phone of 2017.
Vodafone is one of very few UK networks that offers up own-brand mobile phones to Pay As You Go customers. These Vodafone Smart handsets could easily be dismissed as cheap and cheerful, yet we’re regularly impressed by the value for money Vodafone offers. After all, last year’s Smart Prime 7 was one of our favourite budget blowers of 2016.
Now the provider has just released its first 2017 handset across Vodafone stores. And from the specs alone, the Vodafone Smart N8 looks to once again deliver solid everyday performance – as well as the kinds of features usually found at twice the price.

Vodafone Smart N8 features
At this price point (£89 Pay-As-You-Go), the Smart N8 is a direct rival to the likes of Motorola’s new Moto E4 handset. You can expect respectable everyday performance for your small stack of cash, although demanding users should look elsewhere. Voda’s phone is designed for staying in touch, browsing the web and other simple tasks.
That said, the Smart N8 should be good for enjoying YouTube on the move. That 5-inch HD screen will offer quite crisp visuals, while you have a single front-facing speakers for clear audio output.
You also get a microSD memory card slot, for expanding the 16GB of on-board storage. That’ll please anyone who wants to carry around lots of music, or take loads of snaps using the 13-megapixel rear camera and 5-megapixel selfie cam.
We’re impressed to see a fingerprint sensor on this phone, a rarity for sure below the £100 asking price. Great news if you want to stay secure without remembering and constantly punching in PINs.
Families are also well catered for by the Smart N8, thanks to Vodafone’s parental controls. If you’re looking for a phone for your kid, this might be a wise and affordable choice. You can restrict their mobile usage, including blocking access to certain apps and limiting how much time they spend online.
