Wake up and smell the bacon… behold the first-ever bacon-scented alarm clock

The first ever meaty-smelling alarm clock will turn your morning dribble into a hungry drool, unless you’re a vegetarian of course.

The smell of sizzling bacon in the morning is enough to drag any meat-lover out of bed and stumble, hypnotised down into the kitchen. Now, with the world’s first ever bacon-scent producing iPhone alarm clock, this is possible, every morning- no frying pan required.

Yes, we know what you’re thinking. “What? Why? How…?!” We had a similar reaction ourselves when we first heard about it. Suddenly it feels like we’ve fast-forwarded 40 years into the future. The accessory simply plugs into the headphone jack and emits the sound and smell of sizzling, delicious, crispy bacon when it’s time to wake up.

Meat producer Oscar Mayer is the company to thank (or blame) for the mouth-watering iPhone accessory. Tom Bick, Senior Director of Marketing and Advertising at Oscar Mayer, said, “With nearly 2m mentions of #bacon on Instagram, it seems people never get tired of bacon.”

Mr Bick added, “Oscar Mayer is thrilled to bring the first-ever bacon-scented mobile device to market, giving bacon aficionados a new reason to welcome their morning alarm clocks.”

How do you like your bacon in the morning? Through an alarm clock?

The only way you will be able to get your hands on this tantalising alarm clock is to enter Oscar Mayer’s competition in the US. Unfortunately, the Wake Up and Smell the Bacon device is not available to purchase anywhere.

Phil Roudenbusch, head of the Oscar Mayer Institute for the Advancement of Bacon (what a cool job) said: “Only this scent can guide you to your greatest awakening. Experience bacon with all your senses. Like the deepest root, like the stormiest ocean, it’s briny cure endures. Bacon exceeds everything you ever imagined.”

Oscar Mayer may be the first company to bring out a meaty-smelling alarm clock, but it is not the first to announce an accessory which emits smells. Last year, Japense firm ChatPerf announced a smartphone accessory that notifies you of new texts of calls using different scents.

The device, called Scentee, plugs into the iPhone’s Lightning connector and can connect with apps to emit different scents on command. Each ‘scent tank’ contains one fragrance, and you have to swap the tanks for different smells. A red light comes on and a spray of mist comes out when the scent comes through.

We don’t know about you, but we prefer to wake up in the morning with the bacon-smelling alarm clock… with the delicious sound of sizzling bacon… mmm bacon… Sorry, what were we saying? Anyway, if you want to see the bacon alarm clock in action, check out the video below.
