700bhp Shelby-tuned pick-up, anyone?

What happens if you lock Shelby in a room with a Ford SVT Raptor? You get a 700bhp monster known as the Baja 700, a pick-up truck bigger, badder and more testosterone-filled than anything before it.

Just 50 will be built but there’s a slight catch. When we say ‘built’, we in fact mean lucky buyers will need to supply their own SVT Raptor for what has to be one of the most extreme makeovers. That and at least US$45,000.

Your money gets you a lengthy list of extras from Shelby, most of which turn the already hearty 6.2-litre V8 into a 700bhp raging monster. This includes a Whipple supercharger, Borla exhaust system and larger throttle bodies and injectors.

In addition, the Baja 700 has BFGoodrich K02 all-terrain tyres, competition-grade suspension and custom-built 18-inch alloy wheels. Options include a Rogue Racing front and rear bumper and, for the ultimate statement, graphics.

“Fifty lucky owners will have the baddest, best-handling and best-looking Shelby truck we offer. It’s a truck that can thrive under the most extreme conditions,” Shelby operations vice president Akos Feher said.

Performance overhauls for pick-ups are more common than you might think. The Hennessey VelociRaptor, for instance, is a 600hp version of the 2015 Ford F-150 truck.

Still not manly enough? There’s always the utterly ridiculous Ripsaw EV2.
